When It Comes To The BOP, There’s No Immediate Gratification

What many inmates and inmate’s families need to understand is that immediate gratification doesn’t exist when it comes to issues regarding federal prison.

For instance, the purported changes in applying FSA and SCA benefits. One week ago, Rick Stover called Federal Prison Tips founder Kyle Sanders to discuss statutory maximum home confinement eligibility dates and what they were doing with halfway houses and in prisons around this issue.

The video in which this was discussed made it clear that this would likely be rolling out over the course of the next few weeks. But, we received and endless stream of calls and DMs right after the video was posted, reporting person experiences that were said to contradict something, as mentioned, wouldn’t be rolling out for a few more weeks.

Remember, these things take time. Even in best case scenarios, we’re still dealing with government bureaucrats and prisons that use archaic systems to make sweeping changes.

For those who’ve been around a while, we may recall the rollout of the RDAP Program’s year reduction for completion. It took nine months to fully implement that program.

More recently, with the CARES Act, it took four months before the first person left the Federal Prison Camp in Montgomery. This was actually the first place to let someone go.

Further, most of these sweeping changes fall on case managers to implement. There are often between 100 to 200 inmates on a single case manager’s caseload. And, they all want to go home.

We need to understand that instant gratification simply isn’t going to happen, even when there’s good news. These systems never move fast, and there’s only so much we can do in the meantime.

Luckily, it appears that under this administration, if you act right, you’ll get everything you’re entitled to – eventually.
