Guideline Amendments Disappoint Federal Prison Inmates

Inmates in Federal Prison look forward to the United States Sentencing Commission’s annual guideline amendments. This year was especially hopeful as there was a proposed amendment eliminated the disparity between methamphetamine mix and pure methamphetamine as well as an amendment that would eliminate the ability to look at state predicate offenses when applying a career offender enhancement.

Both of these proposed amendments were not promulgated on April 30, 2025 so that means they are being completely skipped over.

Instead the 2025 amendments address:

  • Changes in Supervised Release
  • Minor Role Adjustments
  • Elminated the “downward departure”
  • And resolve some small technical circuit conflicts

Federal Prison Tips has compiled this infographic below to highlight the bullet point changes.
