Here’s another pro tip for people heading to Federal Prison. If you’re here right now, it unfortunately means you’re probably looking at some time in Federal Prison. Here’s another pro tip for people heading to Federal Prison, especially those white collar, first time offenders.

Do Your Time!

It sounds simple enough, right? Well for some it’s not. What does this even mean?

Do your time means two things, first do your time. Be resolved that you’re in Federal Prison. Sure there are a handful of people that shouldn’t be in Federal Prison, or any prison for that matter, and if that’s you, keep fighting. Work with your lawyer, spend some time in the law library, but other inmates don’t want to hear new inmates whining about their time. Especially those that are on a “short sentence”.

6, 9 even 12 months, may seem like an eternity to you, and we know how bad it sucks, but be mindful of that fact that you are surrounded by people who probably have a lot more time than you. Even in camps, you have people who have worked there way all the way down from a USP. When I first arrived at FPC Montgomery (and before I went to Forrest City Low and Forrest City Medium), one of the first really nice people I met had been down for 34 years. There I was whining about 63 months. And for some of you, you’ll be doing a lot less than 63 months.

Do Your Time but Don’t Let the Time Do You.

While you’re doing your time, find ways to occupy that time. Get a prison job, pursue something in education. Maybe work on your fitness goals. The longer you sit around and wallow in your misery, the longer it’s going to fee.

And for most people, don’t keep a calendar in your cube.
