You Know You Can’t Run Forever, Right?
Often, Kyle Sandler, founder of Federal Prison Tips, gets asked: was it worth it to run?
Why? Because he was on the run for 17 months to evade prosecution.
He used to think running was worth it, and that he got sentenced correctly considering the totality of his circumstances.
Now, in hindsight, it wasn’t such a good idea. Seeing how so many white collar crimes – including his – qualify for First Step Act sentence reductions bringing total time down to 52%, he could likely have been in and out of prison in that time he spent stressed out, looking over his shoulder, evading responsibility.
Yes, he likely would have received a 24 month sentence and been home in a year. That’s without snitching – no 5K1.1 or Rule 35. You can see his case for yourself that he never took a deal to assist law enforcement.
If you’re facing federal prison, especially if it’s likely that you’ll go to a camp, the last thing you want to do is run before or after getting sentenced. Sentences can be so short with the First Step Act; the last thing you want to do is add to that time.
