More Former Inmates In Government – Could It Help Fix This Mess?
Here’s something interesting for you. Just recently, Robert Arnold, also known as former Sheriff Robert Arnold of Rutherford, Tennessee, has declared his candidacy for Congress in Tennessee after a multi-decade career in law enforcement.
Robert Arnold once plead guilty to wire fraud, Hobbs Act violations, and honest services fraud. As part of his crimes, he was the partial owner of a company that sold clear, plastic electronic cigarettes to the families of inmates in over 20 county jails in Tennessee and Kentucky.
There was no crime or code violation in the state of Tennessee when he was prosecuted for these crimes.
Regardless, Arnold plead guilty after spending three months in the Grayson County Jail SHU in Kentucky – away from his family, his kids, and any form of consistent communication.
Today, he still has not been convicted of a crime that is directly connected to the instant offense, aside from the convictions he plead guilty to. It would appear he simply accepted the charges presented to get home to his family as soon as possible.
Sheriff Arnold was prosecuted by Jack White, the same prosecutor who prosecuted Donald Trump. He is now running on the Republican ticket against the incumbent Congressman from Rutherford County, who hasn’t visited constituents in his home county in months.
If elected, Arnold promises more presence in the county, with an open-door policy and transparency in his duties as a public servant.
Many say it’s this attitude of transparency that landed him in federal prison in the first place. But, he insists this is the only proper approach to operating in government.
Of course, Arnold also has plenty to say about the federal prison system, the Bureau of Prisons, criminal reform, and more.
Federal Prison Tips founder Kyle Sandler spent time with Arnold at the federal prison camp in Montgomery, where he finished his term of incarceration without First Step Act or CARES Act relief.
We’ll be following this campaign closely, as it seems Arnold is here to fight the good fight, and work on behalf of the people in defense of their rights.
