Yep, Firing Ranges
Few inmates mention this, but there is a scary reality that the majority of inmates experience while incarcerated in federal prison.
Every federal prison complex in the country has a firing range. Some are located closer to the prison than others.
Sometimes it’s off in the distance, other times it’s too close for comfort. Every so often, prison staff will go off-site for “training,” which includes firing round after round at the range, practicing their aim, gun cleaning and maintenance, and other firearm handling protocols.
Most are shocked to realize that this is part of their training as a correctional officer. Officers and staff are required to keep their firearms training current. Why? So they’re ready to shoot at inmates if necessary.
Even federal prison camps – the ones without fences – have an armory, just in case there’s an uprising and officers are required to restore the peace by force.
