Kyle Talks About Being On The Get A Grip Podcast And What’s Happened In The Year Since Then

As I sit here and write this story for federalprisontips.com it’s about 11pm on Sunday August 10, 2025. This morning I got one of those “Facebook memory posts” on my timeline about me being in Columbus Ohio meeting my new friends Louis Essig and Aaron Garnes from “Get A Grip” the first podcast that extended an invitation to me to appear and talk about my story.

It was truly ironic because yesterday (Saturday August 9, 2025) Louis was just down here at the FPM Studios at the 700 ReEntry Center to record my 10toespodcast co-host Jason Votrobek for his podcast and then do a quick check in with us.

About two months ago, when Josh Smith was named Deputy Director of the BOP I invited Louis down to appear on 10toes as he too was a felon turned prison guard (for a short stint) see that interview here.

For those of you who have been following me this whole time you should watch the episode above. It shows just how much we’ve grown in the last year. You may remember a year ago there was a little beef between Ian Bick and I and as you know we mended fences thanks to another podcaster, Kevin Lanning and I went and did Locked In with Ian Bick back in June.

I’ve been doing media for decades, literally. Many know I was “thedroidguy” the first consumer facing Android blogger in the world 15 years ago before prison was even on the horizon.

This interview set off an amazing chain of events and all of us have grown in so many ways, Aaron is even a dad now.
