What is a Federal Prison Camp, Anyway?
A federal prison camp (FPC) is also known as a minimum security facility. Generally, they have the most relaxed enforcement of rules, and the easiest prison culture for all walks of life to integrate into.
Still, there are a few things to always keep in mind. Stay away from contraband and cell phones. Even though the temptation is always there, getting caught in possession of a cell phone is the fastest way to get a 100-series shot, which can subtract good time, and even bring additional criminal charges.
Take as many classes as you can. It earns credits, it helps you pass the time, and if you ever apply for compassionate release or clemency, it demonstrates a willingness to put in effort and make a change. It might seem pointless at the time, but when it comes down to it, you want to always put yourself in the best position to see your motions pass if it becomes a possibility.
You’ll make friends while you’re there, but remember, you came in alone and you’ll leave alone. Don’t let them drag you into day-to-day BS that will mess with your time. Surround yourself with people who have the same goals as you.
