Some Things Are Allowed, Most Are Not

What can you bring with you with you self-report to federal prison?

This is a question we get a lot on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. The truth of matter is ,you are extremely limited in what you can bring.

You can bring your glasses – no contacts allowed. You can bring a small religious necklace like a star of david or a cross, or other kinds of religious iconography, but it must be small. You can also wear a small, plain wedding band.

You will be told that whatever clothes you’re currently wearing will be sent back home, but oftentimes, the clothes simply vanish. For that reason, you’re better off wearing some old throwaway clothes that you wouldn’t care to lose.

Of course, you also cannot bring your cell phone into federal prison, so if you didn’t travel with family or someone who can take your phone home for you, you should bring a throwaway phone that can be tossed when you arrive at the gate.

You can also bring your asthma inhaler.

Sometimes prison guards will allow it, but you aren’t supposed to bring any paper in with you. So, you should be prepared to provide the names and addresses you want to a loved one, and ask for those names/numbers to be emailed when your TRULINCS account is activated.

We cover all of these facts and more with our clients who are currently on the outside and facing time in federal prison. If you are interested in becoming a client or have similar questions, you can call us 7 days a week: 407-434-0175.
