Clearing Up The Confusion

Just how many clemencies and pardons will President Donald Trump’s pardon office grant?

There seems to be some confusion about this, even though there was a big story about it a few weeks ago.

Joe Biden granted 6,600 clemencies before he left office on January 20, 2025. President Trump vowed to grant more than him. And you know the one thing we can count on with Trump is that he will not be showed up by Biden.

The magic number we keep hearing is 10,000. Not today, not this year, but throughout the course of his term.

According to Federal Prison Tips sources, the kinds of people they’re looking for include those with unusually long sentences, people with marijuana charges, low level crimes, nonviolent drug offenses, and first time offenders with white collar crimes. Of course, this list isn’t all inclusive, but sets a tone for the kind of criminal who has a chance with their clemency petition.

If you’re looking to file a clemency petition, you can fill out the free version on the DOJ website and submit it just like thousands of others.

Or, you can hire somebody who has experience and has had clemencies granted in the past, such as an attorney, our firm, Federal Prison Tips, or the Legal Advocacy Center, who’s going to put together a long form narrative version.

There’s a massive benefit to going to the narrative route – you get to have your story told the way you want to tell it, in a compelling way, and in a way that will stand out from the thousands of boilerplate variants from those who decided to go the quick and easy route.
