There’s Lots Of Scores – Only One Matters
We recently had a question posed to us in our Facebook Group, also called Federal Prison Tips. If you haven’t already joined this group, do so today by clicking this link.
The question was as follows: 26 level what prison security will I go to I got 70 months …
More than likely, the 26 being referred to here is not the asker’s custody score or recidivism score, but rather where their crimes fell on the sentencing guidelines table.
So, How It Is Calculated?
Custody score, which determines security level placement, is calculated separately than the length of a sentence. It’s based on several factors, including criminal history, education, history of violence, and more.
The book “Busted By The Feds” has a custody score calculator, which can help you map out what your custody score might be. There’s also a custody score calculator on prisonprofessors.com, but be aware that you will have to input your email address and consent to marketing emails to use it.
The point is, the result of “26” on the sentencing guideline table doesn’t inherently determine whether an inmate is incarcerated at a camp or a medium. The custody score is what matters. With the right custody score, this inmate could easily end up in a prison camp.
There’s a lot of scores, a lot of numbers, and a lot of factors. A representative at Federal Prison Tips can help you navigate all of that confusion.
