This Clip From HBO’S Generation Hustle Explains Why I Didn’t Get To Self Report To Federal Prison

Many of our clients, supporters and followers on social media are facing Federal Prison and are able to self report after sentencing. In many of our 800 tip videos across Tiktok, Instagram and Youtube talk about self reporting, which is when you can turn yourself into the institution you are designated to. But why didn’t I get to turn myself into Federal Prison?

Check out the clip above from HBO’s Generation Hustle. The clip shows my arrest after being on the run for 18 months.

The story goes a little something like this.

On December 6, 2016 I received a target letter from the FBI. A target letter is a letter a Federal agency sends out, be it the FBI, DEA, Homeland Security or even the US Attorney’s office. This letter said they wanted me to come and visit with them at the FBI field office in Mobile Alabama on December 20, 2016 to talk about allegations that I had been defrauding my venture fund, The Round House, based outside of Auburn Alabama.

Rather than reporting to the FBI field office in Mobile, my family and I decided to run the following day.

I was apprehended nearly 18 months later in Bryan Texas where I had relocated and was living under an assumed name.

Alex Gibney, the documentary producer behind “Smartest Guys In The Room” about the Enron scandal, and a movie about Elizabeth Holmes turned my story into Generation Hustle on HBO (it’s currently on hiatus but check out this story here). There is also another documentary coming out on my story very soon on ABC/HULU.

I would not recommend “evading prosecution” or any other form of “running” not only does it add more time to your Federal Prison sentence it also causes you to have to look over your shoulder. My biggest regret is the impact it had on my child’s life who was 8 when we packed it up and left.
